"Construction is a fusion of academic and art"
the inside scoop…
What does an Architect actually do? I currently work in hospitality and retail/commercial projects.
What does a day in your life at work look like? Its very varied depending on the project. Often the days have a couple of meetings which we usually have to react to. We are currently responding to requests for information from the client/construction team.
What's the best part of your job? You don't learn a "role" as the career is so varied. Each project, client and team are so different.
What made you realise construction could be for you? It was a fusion of academic and art
Tell us about a time you made a difference in your work I have done some impact projects. I linked my larger corporate company with a smaller architectural firm who needed help designing and constructing a maternity clinic in Uganda. The hospital has now been built and I am very proud of all the people it is helping.
Who has inspired you in your career? Tomas Heatherwick. I watched him in a talk when I was 17.
Tell us about balancing work with your other interests, or family. I have always tried to balance this. I played sport all through university and learnt how to be efficient as possible with work so that I could balance everything.
Rosie is open to engaging further via: Taking a student for work experience.
