“I’m excited about building things that matter, and leaving a great legacy for the next generations to come.”

the inside scoop…

What does a Senior Design Manager actually do?
I help police the design for the builder to ensure compliance with legislative and clients requirements. We also ensure the design is the most optimal to achieve value for money, derisk the project and complete it on time.

What does a day in your life at work look like?
I have meetings upon meetings with clients, consultants, integrated trade partners to solve problems and ensuring we are achieving the best outcome possible for the client and builder.

What's the best part of your job?
Meeting new people, dealing with myriad of problems and resolving them, seeing the outcome of your labour physically being built on site.

What made you realise construction could be for you?
I didn't really know it was a good industry until I came into it.

Tell us about a favourite project you're working on.
City Tattersalls Redevelopment Project, $450M of mixed used developed in the centre of Sydney CBD including restoration of 150yrs old heritage facade and structure with the new tower being built over to accommodate new hotel and residential spaces.

What are you excited about doing in the future, working in construction?
Building things that matter, and leaving a great legacy for the next generations to come. I also love to see how far we can advocate women to participate in the construction industry and how we can make it more gender inclusive and flexible.

Do you have any advice for young women picking a career?
Even if there is no occupation that might stand out to you as what you want to do, look at the elements that you are good at. Research what type of roles have those elements where you can really excel and that is probably the answer. Talk to heaps and heaps of people to get their insights and advice.
