"Whatever you think the construction industry is about, I can assure you that it is so much more. There is such a large variety of roles required in the construction industry that I didn’t even know existed."
the inside scoop…
What does a Graduate actually do? As a graduate you are rotated through various roles throughout the construction industry. The program provides Graduates with exposure to various roles associated with being a builder (i.e. Design, Safety, Contracts, services, site & site supervision). I have just rotated into a role as a Safety Graduate which involves assisting the Multiplex site team to make their areas safe for workers.
What does a day in your life at work look like? In my safety role I need to complete inductions, site safety walks, monitoring plant and equipment used on site and complete subcontractor audits.
What's the best part of your job? My favourite part about working as a Graduate is being exposed to different roles in the construction industry. Through this exposure it allows you to choose what path you would like to persue in the company.
What made you realise construction could be for you? I have always been curious about construction and my cousin (who worked in the construction industry in Dubai) inspired me.
What would you tell your high school self about working in construction? Whatever you think the construction industry is about, I can assure you that it is so much more. There is such a large variety of roles required in the construction industry that I didn’t even know existed. If you like maths, engineering, law, fitness, design, science, business, the environment etc. there will be a role in the construction industry for you.
What's the best thing about working in construction? The best thing about working in the construction industry is the connections you make with a variety of people.
Tell us about balancing work with your other interests, or family. I still love seeing my friends and family after work. I am also able to still compete in team sports and exercise before work.
