the inside scoop…

What does a Project Engineer actually do?
I manage the output of design on site. I get handed plans and need to make sure we follow them on time and on budget!

What does a day in your life at work look like?
Mainly site based! Meetings with designs and subcontractors. Getting out and talking to our work crews, making sure they are staying on track! Solving any problems which may arise on site.

What's the best part of your job?
The people I work with. Such diverse backgrounds with different stories. But everyone brings their own value add!

What made you realise construction could be for you?
Went on a women in engineering school camp! I walked inside Sea Cliff Bridge and had a moment where I thought this is what I want to do. Build things that change peoples lives.

What would you tell your high school self about working in construction?
Don’t be scared. You’ll love working with people, forming relationships and creating change.

Who has inspired you in your career?
My grandfather, also a civil engineer! He kick started it, but I’ve had a couple of amazing male and female mentors who have invested time in wanting me to succeed. I am so grateful.

What's something that surprised you about working in construction?
The flexibility is there if the company supports it. Long hours happen on occasion but most companies support the value you add as an individual, and know that you have commitments outside of work. I’m lucky to work in a place which supports that.
