"I am playing a part in solving one of the world's biggest challenges yet - the fight against climate change."

the inside scoop…

What does a Senior Analyst, ESG actually do?
I am responsible for ensuring all the properties we buy, invest in or develop take the three branches of sustainability – Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) – into consideration. Together with the development, transactions and asset management teams, we drive ESG strategies and initiatives across all our assets to achieve more sustainable outcomes and aid in making our investments and broader business actions more efficient.

What does a day in your life at work look like?
Collaborating with various teams in Barings to set new ESG-related strategies on existing or new development assets; meetings with external parties and potential clients to discuss our ESG capabilities; site inspections; meetings with consultants; gathering information for submissions to obtain various building and portfolio certifications. Plus there's lots of fun stuff too - like meeting new people, travelling interstate and attending industry events!

What's the best part of your job?
Working in a sustainability role is fulfilling and impactful, and it gives me an incredible sense of purpose. I am playing a part in solving one of the world's biggest challenges yet - the fight against climate change.

What made you realise construction could be for you?
I’ve always been interested in the built environment and how we interact with property. Buildings affect our lives and everything we do – how we live, work, and travel.

What are you excited about in terms of sustainability in construction?
I am excited about how ESG-related processes and strategies are becoming the norm in the construction and development of real estate, and companies are constantly being challenged to improve sustainability outcomes.

Do you have any advice for young women picking a career?
Speak to as many people as you can to better understand what different industries and careers can offer. Plus, industries evolve - there are lots of jobs that exist now, but didn't when I was in university. So, its OK if you aren't 100% sure what your career might look like yet - maybe the perfect job for you doesn't even exist yet!

What's something that surprised you about working in construction?
There is so much innovation and technology driving better outcomes in construction and the built environment, and I only expect this to continue into the future. New technologies in construction have the ability to create positive impacts for real estate, especially for ESG-related issues.
