"Construction isn’t just about getting your hands dirty. It’s about working as a team, you can be on your feet as well as warm in an office sending emails. Everyday is different and you’re forever learning new things. It really does have a position for everyone."

the inside scoop…

What does a Assistant Site Supervisor actually do?
I work within a team co-ordinating and communicating with a variety of trades to ensure that the construction progresses forward smoothly and safely

What does a day in your life at work look like?
I complete a Pre-Start in the morning with my team. I then supervise my floor ensuring that all team members booked to be there that day are present and aware of what work they are doing for the day (that they have the amount of staff, supplies and access needed) to complete the scope of work required to be completed for that day. I then ensure that throughout the day they remain safe and follow the client & multiplex’s protocol. If they need anything I assist them. Once they are finished I then log the work complete, organise the next day(s) whilst keeping in contact with my team to ensure that all quality control and project scope is being met on time.

What's the best part of your job?
I really enjoy working with people. I spend everyday speaking to different professionals about their job and although I am new to the role I have learnt so much by watching and asking questions from other people.

What made you realise construction could be for you?
I’ve always enjoyed physical work and being outside, I didn’t have any interest in going back to school or studying full time so starting an apprenticeship seemed like the best option for me

Do you have any advice for young women picking a career?

What's the best thing about working in construction?
I think it’s job satisfaction. Construction isn’t just about getting your hands dirty. It’s about working as a team, you can be on your feet as well as warm in an office sending emails. Everyday is different and you’re forever learning new things. It really does have a position for everyone.

Who has inspired you in your career?
My dad has been my biggest inspiration. I was a very clumsy child and broke a lot of toys from bikes to teddy bears and running through walls. My dad was always able to fix these things and I admired him for that. I wanted to be the same when I was an adult and I can now say that I am. I am an independent women, who finds myself now lending advice and help back to my dad (which is an amazing feeling!)
