the inside scoop…

What does a New Business Leader actually do?
As a New Business Leader, I look after my sector at the front end of the process. I work with the Architects to complete tender submissions to win the project that the Architects will then design. I am involved in client engagement, strategy, positioning, pitches, pipeline, and marketing collateral.

What does a day in your life at work look like?
No day is ever the same! Days are fast paced and always interesting. The process of a tender starts with a kick off meeting with the team, work on the tender schedules, meetings to check in with the team on what they are working on, making sure we are all on brand, on message, and putting our best foot forward! We then submit the tender and then fingers crossed we have done enough for a win!

What's the best part of your job?
My favourite part is that I have a creative outlet in my job! I get to use InDesign and format pages and play around with layouts which is what I have always enjoyed doing! I enjoy the challenge of my work but relish that feeling you get after submitting a bid and getting everything done! Winning is also the cherry on top!

What made you realise construction could be for you?
I was always interested in the publishing/formatting side of documents and didn't know I could do this in the Architecture world! My 'ah ha' moment came when I started working at an architecture studio in a different role and found out this was a job!

What would you tell your high school self about working in construction?
That this job exists! There are so many other options to pick from that aren't your usual Architect, Planner, Engineer etc. I never realised the obscure opportunities and pathways that would lead me to this spot in my career.

What's the best thing about working in construction?
Working on such large and influential projects! I enjoy being at the front end seeing the idea and the brief of what the clients want and when we win it I get to see where the project evolves to and the final product!

Who has inspired you in your career?
I have been so lucky to work with some amazing people! I feel I have thrived under guidance from the experts and trailblazers that came before me and they have all inspired me to bring the best I can and do it all while having a laugh!
